The editor bios: what we're doing
It is customary to provide some sort of biographical statement or list of credits
for the editors of a literary journal. These bios are often instructive but also
risk being uninteresting. Our hope is to make the editor bios a beautiful part of
the journal itself. So we have decided to write the bios in the form of myths,
fairy tales, folk tales, or fantasy narratives, and we have also decided to
serialize them. (See below.)
As our editors are becoming characters in these tales, check our Editors page
frequently and see what episodes these characters have leaped into. In the days
of Charles Dickens, American readers lined the Boston docks, desperate for
the next installment of The Old Curiosity Shop to arrive on the ships from
Britain. They would call out to the mariners: "Is Little Nell dead?" I suppose
today's equivalent to this would be serialized television narratives, such as
Battlestar Galactica with its distinct and subsequent chapters.
While we have no illusions of our own grandeur, we are enamored of the serial
narrative, and so we offer you our bios--humbly, proudly, and madly--in this form.
We hope they prove exciting and that they enrich your experience of Dante's
Heart.
